"A saying that I heard a lot lately is "Leaders eat last'. This year I not only learnt about it but I have experienced it. I have learnt what it is like to put others before you and to dedicate and put yourself out there so others can benefit. Being a leader means making sacrifices even in times when no one is watching but being able to see others benefit from your actions is a good enough feeling to carry on."

Bravo Liam Lai from Curro Waterstone College, who earned distinctions in 6 subjects. Enjoy furthering your studies at Wits University! 3 distinctions by Eva Cheng from The King's School West Rand and Kelly-Anne Kong from Tyger Valley College are received with adulation.
"I'd like to thank the school. I am privileged to be a student at TKSWR and representing the school in hockey is my honour. Without the school I wouldn't be where I am right now, and for that I am grateful. I was able to learn new skills from other teams as well as advice from other referees. I am grateful for the sport that brought each and every one of us together. Despite the difference in age, we became more that teammates at the end of season."
In 2017, Eva qualified for the second round of the South African Mathematics Olympiad with a 75% result in the initial round and was part of the three-member team awarded second place for their poster, Titan, in the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials Science Poster Competition winning R 10,000 for their school. Her artwork was also published in the Art Times magazine.
Many blessings at Wits University studying Mechanical Engineering!
"I really enjoy accounting and it is something that is enjoyable for me. I also like to read a lot, sketch, write and people tell me that law is a nice degree to do for me."
Kelly-Anne got full colours in academics, half colours for outreach and was the top learner in Computer Application Technology. Inspired by her father "because he really works hard to get us the best of everything (I have 2 younger siblings as well) and he does a lot for me as well. Even though he works really hard, he still tries to spend as much time with my family.", the hockey player's motto is "Just do it!".
