Warren Ying is a chef in Cape Town, who loves to share the food he enjoys cooking and eating with people. Warren and his wife recently opened Ying Son Asian Foods, a friendly local speciality food store stocking a variety of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Korean ingredients and frozen foods, serving reheatable ready meals, daily lunch specials and boba tea.

Sharing White Rabbit sweets with my friends at school.

Cantonese food.

Cape Town.
6. What work do you do?
I own an Asian grocery store in Cape Town.
7. What do you love about your job?
I get to cook food I love to eat and share it with people.
8. What is your proudest achievement?
Opening Ying Son Asian Foods.
9. Why are you proud to be South African?
I love being South African because of our diverse culture. I am still learning about other cultures in our country. And we live in a beautiful place.
10. Why are you proud to be Chinese?
We come from a culture that is hard working, family driven and love to eat together.
11. Name one Chinese tradition that you’d like future generations to continue with?
Giving red packets on special occasions.
12. What advice would you give to the Chinese youth today in South Africa?
Be proud of where your family comes from and celebrate it.
