Congratulations to Shannon Wong Fatt, a former Grade 12 learner at Kimberley Girls’ High School, for achieving 8 subject A’s in English (Home Language), Afrikaans (First Additional Language), Mathematics, Music, Accounting, Physical Science, Life Orientation and Life Sciences, during the 2021 NSC matric final examinations.
"It was a stressful time, but it was not so bad as I thought it would be. My matric year was great, even if it was sometimes rough with all the academics. We could rely on our teachers and friends, especially after the restrictions of 2020 when I was in Grade 11."
She said the school tried to arrange opportunities for the matriculants to uplift their spirits.

Shannon represented the Northern Cape at the annual Inter-Provincial and South African Individual Chess Championships and was also selected to represent South Africa at the postponed World School Chess Championship 2020 in Panama City.
She served as vice-chairman of the school orchestra and plays four musical instruments.
"My biggest role model is my Physical Science teacher, Mrs Hwenhira. She is my role model because even though teaching was not her first choice, she always put in so much effort. She was always ready to brighten our day and she was just always someone I could rely on."
Her advice to the matriculants of 2022 is to work hard and consistently.
Good luck Shannon studying medicine at Stellenbosch University!
"I want to become a doctor, because when I grew up, many people in my family were sick or in pain and there was nothing I could do to help them. So I want to help other people in the future. I am very much looking forward to providing affordable healthcare to people who need it after I get my degree."
