Congratulations to Jiaming (Jessy) Li, a former Deputy head girl and rowing team vice-captain for earning 8 subject A’s (in English, Afrikaans, French, Life Orientation, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Visual Arts and Advanced Programme Mathematics) during the 2018 final IEB matric examinations.


"St Andrew's has taught me to be grateful for every opportunity. I've learnt humility and the values are fully integrated into my life. My fondest memories include spending time with friends at the tuckshop."

Well done to Jiaming (Jessy) Li, for being awarded Full colours / Honours in Academics and Visual Arts at St Andrew's School for Girls Senior School’s annual 'Speech Night' held on Thursday, 11th October 2018. The deputy head girl also reflected on all of the year’s experiences based on this year's theme, “The Future is Ours”, looking particularly on the empowerment of women.

Very proud of Jiaming (Jessy) Li for winning the Women’s Ergothon at the 9th annual ‘International University Rowing Regatta’ held in Xinjin County, Chengdu, China.


Identified as an elite overseas Chinese youth and invited to represent South Africa, she also competed in a friendly Women’s Doubles race with a rower from Sichuan Province.

Well done to Jiaming (Jessy) Li for leading St Andrew’s School for Girls to win the ‘Best Overall Girls Rowing School’ title at the ‘SA National Rowing Championships’, held at Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve in May 2018. She was also awarded gold (coxed fours), silver (coxless pairs) and bronze (1st quad) medals, as a member of her school’s open team. Also to:

  • Ivy Ma (under 16 team): silver in quad sculls and placing fifth in the 2nd quad; and

  • Yuxin Zhang (under 14 team): finishing seventh in the octople.

Congratulations to Grade 11 learner Jiaming (Jessy) Li for being appointed Deputy head girl in the school’s Council for 2018, during the ‘Grade 12 Induction Ceremony’ held on Friday, 13th October 2017. She was also announced as her school’s rowing vice-captain for the upcoming season, after being awarded full colours earlier in the year.

Congratulations to Vivian Yan for achieving 9 subject A’s (in English, IsiZulu, Life Orientation, Accounting, Business Studies, Mathematics, Music, Physical Sciences and Advanced Programme Mathematics) and ranking within the Top 1% in Life Orientation nationally, during the 2018 final IEB matric examinations.


The 2018 Head of Eco Council was awarded ‘Outstanding achievement in Grade 12’, Academic full colours and honours, and received subject prizes for Advanced Programme Mathematics, Life Orientation and Business Studies at her school’s annual Speech Night.

Awarded half colours for Music, she was also a gold medalist in the senior Piano category and joint winner of the overall Music Trophy last year.
