Helping residents in Kensington
KenCare Christmas Lunch
Today we are hosting a Christmas lunch at the De Wetshof Retirement Village here in Kensington. We all know that the past two years have been a tough time for all of us because of the pandemic. But we at KenCare and the Kensington Residents and Ratepayers Association (KRRA) are still trying to assist our community where we can.
In June this year KRRA together with Huang Attorneys Inc have donated in total of 14,000 face masks and 50 litres of hand sanitizer to Kencare, Flower Foundation Retirement Home, Avon Home for the Disabled and four different primary schools namely Jeppe Preparatory, Kensington Ridge, Leicester Road and Eastgate Primary School.
This December KenCare in joint forces with KRRA organised the Christmas Festive Challenge where we have received donations from various organisations, companies and individuals.
All these generous donations, consist of about 300 kgs of chicken pieces, 280 kgs of rice, 280 food parcels and toiletries gifts, went to 120 impoverished people on the 1st and 8th of December as well as to our 150 senior residents today.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our sponsors. They are:
Mr Nick Lo from African Taiwanese Hakka Federation;
Pick n Pay Darras Centre;
Cut and Craft Restaurant Kensington;
Convicap Trading (Miss Saron Chen);
Micro Studio Trading (Miss Vivien Su);
Huang Attorneys Inc (Mr Albert Huang);
Prof Alice Chan (University of Pretoria);
Families and friends of KenCare.
I would like to thank you for helping us make a positive difference in our community.
Lastly I would like to thank:
the coordinator Linda Cerbone of KenCare who managed and organized everything and her son Gianni for all the hard work on packing the food parcels and cooking the meals;
Dr Ivan Jardine for the music and seedlings;
Mr Jack van de Vorst of KRRA;
Students and teachers from Rand Prep and College for your on going support;
The volunteers at KenCare that assisted the cooking;
The staff of De Wetshof Retirement Village;
Thank you all for this successful event.

Huang Attorneys Inc. generously purchased 50 handmade blankets from Johannesburg Children’s Home and donated it to The Salvation Army’s Strathyre Girls’ Home for Mandela Day 2019.
“We have been doing the annual winter donation for the past 10 years, selecting a different organisation each year in the Kensington community. We felt that this year purchasing from charity to give to charity was the right thing to do," said Albert Huang.
The day wasn't only about charity, but also to offer motivation and inspiration to the girls to become lawyers.
He added "It was interesting to chat to the girls and listen to some of the questions about the profession. We hope to have sparked the embers of a new generation of legal practitioners from this bright group of girls".
