First No Rules Cafe launches in JHB

No Rules Cafeteria is Johannesburg’s newest addition to the pop-up food scene. The intimate event is an experimental and unusual dining experience launching at No End Contemporary Art Space in Linden on 11 and 12 May 2019.

Limited to only 30 people per session, No Rules Cafeteria is all about encapsulating a litty and gritty dining experience that is sure to stay on your mind for years to come. “Everything about the event drips with colour, concept, character and nerve,” says co-founder and chef, Khanya Mzongwana.

The event features a 3-course menu prepared by Khanya, an art exhibition titled ‘I know I don’t know; or, But what if we’re wrong?’ curated by No End Contemporary Art Space, Musgrave Gin cocktails and Devil’s Peak craft beer paired per course.

The live entertainment line-up by Pussy Party, features co-founder, Rosie Parade and Your Uncle Garry at the Saturday supper, while acoustic songstress, Lesedi Milongo entertains guests on Sunday evening.

Thanks to Caitlin Human at Tonic Joburg, patrons will enjoy welcome drinks at the gin bar in 7th Ave, Linden; afterwards they can stroll down the road to the gallery for dinner. Artisanal coffee, courtesy of Yield Coffee Bar will complete the experience.

With Khanya's secular approach to all things food, No Rules is pretty much the powered-up rebirth of all the things you've ever loved to eat – presenting pockets of pleasant surprises, without doing too much.

The all-girl team comprises of Mzongwana, a food stylist, chef and food writer who previously hosted the Off The Wall Pop-Up Restaurant series; Tayla Foong, the team’s marketing wing and Sydney Keeney, gallery manager of No End Contemporary Art Space.

“Tayla’s magnetic marketing brain helped piece all our beautiful plans together, into something valid and real and also assembled this dynamic team of crazy, casual, cool hunties who love art, food and creating comfortable, fun spaces that make you want to change the way you do EVERYTHING. Sydney is the wiz behind No Rules Cafeteria's entire look and feel and the purveyor of the exceptionally quaint space we're lucky enough to do all the frenzied, fabulous things we'll be presenting to you,” continues Mzongwana.
