Supporting orphans


Thank you to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Chinese Consulate in Cape Town, for celebrating the Lantern Festival with 21 young residents of Baphumelele Children’s Home in Philippi. Generously donated over R 2.4m to build the Home several years ago, the yellow T-shirt-clad volunteers (comprising doctors, teachers and business owners from our community) continually provides them with resources and other daily essentials.


Survé Philanthropies awarded the foundation the inaugural Imagine Award for Poverty Alleviation (Community Development category) last November recognising the impact of their social initiatives including:

  • assisting shack-fire victims;

  • providing Winter relief to impoverished communities,

  • hosting annual Christmas parties at orphanages,

  • distributing sanitary towels and supplies at schools, and

  • donating furniture, medical equipment and food to the disabled.

Imagine Award-winner



Congratulations to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for winning the 'Poverty Alleviation: Community Development ' category of the inaugural Imagine Awards, held at the Cape Town Artscape Theatre Centre on Friday, 30th November 2018.


Established in 2009, the foundation is the largest Chinese charity in SA and the only one of its kind in Africa. Apart from annual donations of food, clothing, school supplies and medical equipment for the disabled, it also built an orphanage in Philippi.

Helping fire victims



Thank you to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Chinese Consulate in Cape Town, for generously donating non-perishable food items (including sugar, salt, flour, teabags, rice, mealie-meal, canned fish, cooking oil and much more) to 1,000 Khayelitsha residents, left destitute after a fire destroyed over 300 shacks, at Kilambo Village Hall in Makhaya Park.

Providing Winter relief

Well done to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for generously donating warm clothing and six months’ worth of food to orphanages in Cape Town’s townships, as part of their annual Winter relief programme.


Good luck implementing the second phase, providing the orphans with cooking, woodwork and public services skills training.

Centenary Mandela Day (2018) - Cape Town



Thank you to Consul General Kang Yong, SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation, Chinese Community Police Forum (CCPF) and our community in Cape Town for generously donating daily necessities to the less fortunate on Saturday, 14th July 2018, an early start to their centenary ‘Mandela Day’ celebrations. Also to the Chinese cultural performers that entertained them.

Chinese / Lunar New Year - Cape Town


Well done to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for inviting 150 children [40 from Baphumelele Children’s Home (Khayelitsha), 10 from Heatherdale Children’s Home (Athlone) and 100 from Chinese International School] to play games, perform song and dance and celebrate cultural diversity at their ‘Spring Festival Garden Event’, held at Kirstenbosch in Cape Town on Saturday, 17th February 2018.


The Foundation has been a long-time supporter of both Children’s Homes and partnered with them on projects in the past.


Thank you for proudly using our festival celebrations to encourage cultural interaction in our future generations.

Mandela Day (2017)

Thank you to SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for kindly donating 15 heaters and 120 sets of blankets and warm clothing to the 120 impoverished residents off SOS Children's Village in Thornton, Cape Town on Mandela Day,18th July 2018.

Hosting annual Christmas parties



Thank you to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for hosting annual Christmas parties for the orphans of Baphumelele Children’s Home in Khayelitsha, in addition to providing continual funding, donations and caring the home relies upon.

Donating sanitary towels

Thank you to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for kindly donating 3,000 packs of sanitary towels (worth over R 28,000) to 500 learners of Zola Secondary School in Khayelitsha (to last for the next year) on Thursday, 4th August 2017.

Assisting the disabled

Thank you to the SA Soong Ching Ling Foundation for generously donating R 100,000 worth of 20 wooden beds, mattresses, cotton quilts, blankets, tables and chairs, computer desks, sofas, stationery, kitchen appliances, cutlery and food to the residents of Jo-Dolphin Swartland Association for Persons with Disabilities in Malmesbury during June 2016.


This follows a similar donation to Elkana Childcare Centre, also in Malmesbury, a few days earlier.
