Congratulations to Chao-Hong Peng, a former Head councillor at Hyde Park High School in Johannesburg, for achieving 7 subject A’s, for Accounting, Afrikaans, Engineering Graphics and Design, English, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Science, during the 2018 IEB final matric examinations.

Chao-Hong Peng was the 2018 recipient of the Rosebank Rotary Award (for the learner who most embodies the qualities of fellowship, scholarship, leadership, sportsmanship and particularly service), awarded during his school’s Valediction Ceremony held in the Thurman Hall in October 2018. The school tennis team captain also placed second in his grade in academics at the end of term 3.

”I started tennis when I was eight years old and became interested when my coach at the Randburg Tennis Club indicated that I had potential.”
The Randburg Tennis Club member began competing in club tournaments and junior leagues around the country from the age of 12. He enjoys the competitive aspect of club tennis that exposes him to more experienced and stronger players, which motivates him to practice harder.
Chao-Hong Peng earned provincial and national colours in representing Central Gauteng U/19A and South African High Schools U/17 (in tours of the United Kingdom) respectively.
The Hyde Park High School tennis first team member was selected as one of six boys to represent Gauteng U/19A team in the 2018 High Schools Inter-Provincial Tournament at the Groenkloof Tennis Stadium in Pretoria from Friday 27th to Monday 30th April 2018.
He was also awarded his Tres Honores full-colours white blazer, having achieved three separate full colour awards, namely cum laude for academics, table tennis and tennis.

He and Hayley Tsuen (Grade 10, Roedean School for Girls, far right) were members of the Gauteng Central team that defeated Gauteng North 25-12 in the U/19 final.

Chao-Hong was also named to our South African U/19 High Schools team at the tournament's conclusion.
Leadership recognised

Chao-Hong Peng was elected as Hyde Park High School head senior councillor for 2018. Born in South Africa, the top academic achiever in his grade made the 2nd round of the 2017 Mathematics Olympiad.
The school table tennis team captain was also awarded full colours by playing for the Gauteng District 9 U/18 squad. He resides in Blairgowrie and also enjoys playing chess.
