Meet Logan Hing

Logan Hing is a UX designer and commissioned artist from Johannesburg. Logan is also the founder of Oh Whizkers - a community orientated app to help reunite lost pets with their owners.

Name: Logan Hing

Occupation: UX design graduate, founder of Oh Whizkers and commissioned fine artist

1. Where were you born?

  • I was born in Johannesburg

2. What school/college/university did you attend?

  • My schooling years were spent at King Edwards VII school from primary school right until completion of matric

3. What is your fondest childhood memory, growing up as a Chinese child?

  • The first thing that comes to mind is definitely the wonderful time spent with family indulging in Chinese celebrations, especially those which included good food cooked by the mama (hands down the best Asian food I have still had to date).

4. What is your favourite Chinese food?

  • Won ton mein as well as chasui pow

5. Where do you live?

  • I reside in Oakdene

6. What work do you do?

  • I had graduated from the University from Johannesburg FADA in 2017, majoring in UX Design. From graduation until 2018 I have been working together with my team on Oh Whizkers (A community orientated app to help reunite lost pets with their owners and simultaneously strength bonds between South African’s through the love of animals). The project has come to completion and now I shall begin my search for a career in UX design.

7. What do you love about your job?

  • I find it very rewarding to be able to add meaningful contributions to society through the use of technology.

8. What is your proudest achievement?

  • My proudest achievement would definitely be being blessed with a wonderful family and girlfriend who show such amazing support and interest in every aspect of my life. As well as being able to help contribute to South Africans animal industry through the Oh Whizkers app

9. Why are you proud to be South African?

  • We South Africans acknowledge each other, we see and notice each other, I find that especially in my generation support structures of support are strong, we encourage each other to grow.

10. Why are you proud to be Chinese?

  • I owe my pride to be Chinese to my grandparents who made a life here in SA through circumstances and raised a caring structure of family

11. Name one Chinese tradition that you’d like future generations to continue with?

  • To celebrate Chinese New Year no matter what religion or background because such is important to fellow Chinese and we should embrace in what others believe in, in order to strengthen community.

12. What advice would you give to the Chinese youth today in South Africa?

  • To care for your family and loved ones and to live a life that best suits you.

13. Is there anything else that you’d like to share with the Chinese community?

  • We should help each other whenever we can and if people have the capabilities to help one another then such should be encouraged,
