Supporting mental health
Thank you to Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group for their inaugural dragon dance performance at the 25th Cape Town International Kite Festival in aid of Cape Mental Health’s provision of mental health support within underprivileged communities.
"Our dragon dance was warmly welcomed by the organizers." ~ Dong Gang (Group Leader and Head of the SA Chinese Cultural Development Centre) indicated their performance not only added to the amusement of over 50,000 visitors, but also presented an opportunity for the local people to get a taste of the Chinese culture.

Cape Town Carnival (2019)

Thank you to Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group and our Western Cape community, for proudly representing us amongst the Mother City’s diverse cultures at the 10th annual ‘Cape Town Carnival’ for the third consecutive year, held along the Green Point Fan Walk on Saturday, 16th March 2019. And for inviting some of M.J. Li's Kung Fu students to perform at this year's carnival.

Also to the Hong Kong Tourism Board for inviting and paying for a large group of Cape Town Carnival performers to represent SA during the ‘2019 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade’ in February. Supporting Cape Town's youth
Well done to Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group for performing during the largest inter-schools March Drilling Competition in Cape Town for the second consecutive year during October 2018. The aim of this annual event, started in 2007 and attracted 1500 learners from 18 schools this year, is to instill a sense of self-discipline, team-work, respect and helps combat potential future criminal influence among the youth.

Welcoming the Navy
Thank you to Cape Town Hua Xing Arts Group for performing traditional lion dancing during the official welcome ceremony for the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy's (PLA Navy) goodwill visit to the SA Navy in Simon's Town on Saturday, 27th June 2018. Cape Town Carnival (2018)
"We enjoyed the excitement of being part of the Carnival family and the celebration of diversity of communities and cultures” - Gang Dong (Group Leader).
We are proud of our community in Cape Town for participating in the ‘Cape Town Carnival’ for the second consecutive year in the event’s nine year history, on Saturday, 17th March 2018.
Dragon, lion, ribbon, lantern and fan dancers, drummers and float parade were among over 2 000 costumed performers, that entertained thousands of residents, tourists and other participants along the streets of Green Point Fan Walk.
Thank you for representing us as part of the diverse cultures that comprises SA’s ‘Mother City’.

Celebrating Chinese / Lunar New Year
Spot Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group's performance during Chinese Lantern Festival celebrations, hosted by the Confucius Institute at Stellenbosch University (CISU) on Friday, 2nd March 2018.
The group also performed at the Western Province Chinese Association (WPCA) New Year lunch on Sunday, 25th February 2018. Read more about this annual event in Ming-Cheau Lin's 'Butterfingers' blog here.

Supporting anti-crime initiatives
"So this is a great opportunity to integrate the Chinese community with locals because we are also part of the community” - Gang Dong (Group Leader).
Well done to Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group for performing at the first 'Western Cape Kung Fu Schools Tournament (hosted by Muhammad 'M.J. Li' Chafeker) at Rocklands School Hall in Mitchells Plain during August 2017. Read more about this in the 'Cape Times' (Thursday, 3rd August 2017) newspaper digital article here.
Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group also performed at "Youth Making Noise Against Crime", an anti-crime event aimed at highlighting the seriousness of violent criminal activities that are currently affecting SA's youth, in Atlantis (a crime-stricken community outside Cape Town) during June 2017.

Cape Town Carnival (2017)
"We are proud of being part of the Rainbow Country and to share the diversity of its multi-cultures" - Gang Dong (Group Leader).
Thank you to our Chinese community in Cape Town, for participating in the annual 'Cape Town Carnival', held on Saturday 18th March 2017, for the first time in the event’s eight year history.
Despite starting from scratch (with less than 50 days to prepare) and having to stitch costumes, build puppets and train almost 100 inexperienced performers after work, their dragon and lion dances were enthusiastically received by both other participants and spectators.

Cape Town HuaXing Arts Group's traditional dragon and lion dancers also performed at the 'Durban Port Festival', organised by Durban University of Technology Confucius Institute (DUT CI), eThekwini Municipality, MSC Cruises and KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, held at at Wilson’s Wharf for the first time during September 2018.
